Fact Checker

Unlike any other candidate, or party, we are doing something new, and to be fair, what is required by everyone in this age of social media, where people can say anything. Can they back it up many ask? Is it true? Can we trust them?

Well, with us you can believe us and trust us as we back up everything we say by showing you the source of the information. No other candidate are doing this. Why? Because they can't back their claims up nor can they be trusted.

Cycle Lanes

We talk extensively about the Council spending over £41m on cycle lames including £20m for a cycle lane from Standish to Ashton. You may ask. Where do we get this figure from? Wigan Council's own website on their budget page. Below is the screen shot of the section where we get the figures from.

So you can see we can back up everything we say to you here. Why do the other candidates do the same?

Money for the Council from migrants

When we say about Wigan Council wanting to have economic migrants as they get money for them, the council say this isn't true.

We reply on the Freedom of Information we put into the Home Office. The question and answer is below. Or click this link

Labour Council do not oppose migrants at Kilhey Court

We asked the Homes office if, and when, Wigan Council opposed the migrants at Kilhey Court. We did this under the Freedom of Information. The responses shows the council did not oppose the migrants. Neither did the Labour Cllr Mugan. Here is the time line.

Friday 18th August - Article in Wigantoday and this was when we first learnt of this.

Evening of Friday 18th August - Online petition started by Gareth Fairhurst

Saturday 19th August -Ince Cllr Maureen O'Bern shared the petition and called for a protest march.

Saturday 19th August - Wigan Council and poss with Standish Cllrs call for the online petition to be taken down.

Evening of Saturday 19 & overnight to Sunday 20 August Standish Views Matter started and has a new petition in the Standish Views Matters Website, this was so the council and Cllrs could not get it taken down again as we controlled it.

Monday 21 August - Cllr Deborah Parkinson emails the Home Office.

Wednesday 23 August - Cllr Ray Whittingham emails the Home Office

Monday 4th September - Cllr Deborah Parkinson emails the Home Office again.

Notice no emails from Wigan Council and or Labour Cllr Terry Mugan.

Labour back our campaign

We claim Labour Cllr are now backing our campaign for . We all know one of Standish Independents founders George Fairhurst camapigned with us about this issue. Here is what the local presss said when we lost George - He was a well-known advocate for safety at the Standish crossroads and campaigned for improvements to the junction throughout his time in the chamber.. Here is that link. Below is a section of the March Labour leaflet showing them now agreeing with us and saying they want cameras on the lights we have for years.

Labour fight for Golborne train station

We talk about how Labour are fighting for a train station in Golborne but not in Standish, although having the two stations would help the viability case study to do this. But Labour don't care about Standish having a station.

Here is the link to the council website about the Golborne station. But no mention of standish

Wigan council link to back our claim up

MORE HOUSES FOR STANDISH ?

With regards our story on more houses for Standish here is a link where Labour leader says he wants 1.5m more houses . source the BBC.

Also, he has said in this BBC news article that he would allow building on the green belt. . Link here.

So we can see that Standish has had enough of houses and if elected how likely would this Labour candidate be to stand up to the Labour Government ? Not likely when the Kilhey Court crisis hit Standish he legged it and was nowhere to be seen.

So you can see we back up with what we say. the other candidates don't.
